geometric dresser

Medium: Hand-built from pine wood using hand-saw, wood glue, sandpaper and paint, using IKEA Tarva dresser as a base

personal project, 2021

Creating this dresser involved hand-sawing hundreds of pieces of pine wood at varying angles, to create a geometric three-dimensional effect, which is further emphasized by the assemblage of shadows that the pieces create on each other in the bedroom with the warm light sources.

wood tile dresser

Medium: Hand-built from pine wood using hand-saw, wood glue, various wood veneers, using IKEA Tarva dresser as a base

personal project, 2024

Creating this dresser involved calculating the size of each rectangular veneer to fit onto the size of each drawer, then cutting various wood veneers with an X-Acto knife. Wood veneers were arranged then glued onto the facade of the dresser.

metal cylindrical cabinet

This cabinet (designed to be approximately 6' high, 6' wide and 1.5' deep) is to be constructed using numerous cylindrical containers in varying shades of patina metal including copper, bronze, silver, and brass. This variation create an organic effect with visual depth. The door facades of each container (which open with push mechanisms) have an applied metal wire texture in an organic shape, inspired by nature and concepts of growth, transformation, and interconnectedness, mirroring natural textures and flows of ocean waves and tree roots. The soft, organic shape contrasts with the hard metal material.

denim loop lounge chair

This lounge chair is to be constructed using vintage repurposed denim, blending old and new features, which adds character and individuality to interior spaces, and is a sustainable product. The use of denim in this furniture piece creates a trans-disciplinary approach to furniture design, as this is not a common material in furniture design, but it is common in fashion. The denim texture juxtaposes with the soft looped texture of the denim fabric and the curved and soft shapes of the chair. Each of the frayed loop of vintage denim brings character to the chair and tells its own story.

metal ring loungE chair

This lounge chair design blends and juxtaposes industrial harshness with soft round shapes and soft woven leather, creating a dichotomous and captivating effect. The chair’s base is a repetitive metal ring foundation, at three varying sizes, reminiscent of industrial tools and other objects, such as wheels. The shape and orientations of the three different sized rows of rings adds complexity to the overall structure, and changes the appearance of the chair from various perspectives. The material is constructed using chainmail metal rings woven with soft black leather strips, adding soft texture and comfort to the industrial design. The repetition of the rows of metal rings in the chair’s base alongside the smaller rings woven throughout the chair’s leather fabric texture, creates a harmonious and captivating effect.
