The Children’s Library at the Chappaqua Public Library is reimagined as an immersive, cloud-inspired environment designed to support children of all ages, from infants and toddlers to children in 5th grade, along with their parents and caregivers. Guided by the concepts of whimsy, immersion, and airiness, the design features soft curves, modular cloud-like furnishings, a light and calming color palette, and playful forms that create a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere for learning, play, and exploration. Clouds and the sky are associated with imagination, curiosity and a sense of wonder which are all essential to child development. The space intends to transport children into the sky, where they can play amongst the clouds. While the library remains open and visually connected, the space is thoughtfully organized by age group and includes specialized areas such as a program room, private study room, and a partially enclosed tent retreat that offers a quieter sensory experience adjacent to the active play zone.
